A cheque was presented to Cancer Research UK at today’s Reunion Lunch.
Honorary and retired members and friends joined current members for a convivial lunch at the Who’d a Thought it today. Following the lunch Laura Megatli-Wright of Cancer Research UK (CRUK) was presented with a cheque for £ 17,700 by President Geoff Haffenden and North Downs Walk Co-ordinator Chas Bedford. The cheque represents CRUK’s share of the sponsorship for the club’s 2023 North Downs Walk.

The Rotary Club of the Weald of Kent have been running an annual walk, on the North Downs above Harrietsham, for 38 years, during which over £ ½M has been raised for many charities. Half of each walker’s sponsorship is donated to Cancer Research UK as the Club’s selected charity. The other half is donated to a charity of the walker’s choice. Some walkers donate all of their sponsorship to CRUK. The 2023 Walk raised a record total of £ 27,000 including Gift Aid, the £ 17,700 presented today being CRUK’s portion of the total.
The 2024 walk is planned for 9th June. More information about the walk and participating can be found on our North Downs Walk page.
