Our 41st North Downs Walk enjoyed bright sunshine, a cooling breeze and no rain, ideal conditions for the sponsored walk that is the highlight of Weald’s annual programme. 405 walkers completed one of the 1,3,6 and 9 mile routes. The climb up the North Downs for the 6 and 9 mile routes is a challenge but worth it for the views from the top. After their exertions, walkers were treated to a ploughman’s lunch, strawberries and cream, and live music.
It is too early to give a final figure for the amounts raised. Walkers have still to collect all their pledges, and money continues to be pledged on online giving pages. However, a first estimate is that we raised about £15,000 for Cancer Research and a further £5,000 for a multitude of good causes nominated.
A major selling point for the Walk is that every penny raised by the walkers goes to the charities. Once again, this is made possible by our event sponsors, Family Funeral Service, who have underwritten all of our catering and admin costs.
