Part of the Rotary tradition is our after-dinner speakers, a mix of the entertaining, informative or thought-provoking. At Weald, our members take turns as ‘speaker finder’ with the twist that, if you can’t find a speaker, you have to do a talk yourself.
During 2023, nine of our members did just that, speaking either from experience or after researching a specialist subject (one of whom made it onto BBC Mastermind). The subjects included:
- Gaia Theory
- History of the London Underground
- Farming in the 1940s
- Calvin and Hobbes cartoons
- Rotary Youth Activities
- Ultra-processed foods
- Treatment of cataracts
- Travelogue of Peru and Bolivia
- The life of Guiseppe Garibaldi
Always varied, always interesting, which sums up Rotary nicely.
