Weald Rotarians have been active on three consecutive days, ‘showing the flag’ (or, at least, the logo-ed fleeces) in Headcorn, Lenham and Headcorn.
Last Friday (28th November) we were at St Peter & St Paul’s Church in Headcorn, putting fairy lights on about 100 Christmas trees. In addition to looking stunning when they were lit up the following day (and they will be lit every day until Christmas) they are part of the church’s fundraising effort. Sponsors pay for their name on a lit tree, which they will then decorate.
On a wet Saturday (29th) morning, we set up the gazebo and buzzwire game as part of the Lenham Lights switch-on event. We had a constant stream of young players (and some not so young) who racked up some impressive scores, including 6 clear rounds. We also managed to chat to a lot of people about the Mike Collingwood fund, the North Downs Walk and Rotary in general.
… and then on Sunday (30th) we took the buzzwire and Rudolf to Harrietsham for the Christmas Grotto event in the village hall. Rudolf was there for a look around before his trip with Santa on 16th December. A fun event, which included our president Chas moonlighting on saxophone with the band playing carols.
The buzzwire was free entertainment on Saturday and Sunday but there was a collecting bucket which raised £43
