Chas Bedford presents trophies to two cadets who participated in the North Downs Walk

On Thursday evening North Downs Walk lead, Chas Bedford, presented the new Keith Simmons Team Challenge Shield and the Group Trophy to 354 Dover Squadron Air Training Corps.

354 Dover Squadron raised £ 2400 in sponsorship, £ 1200 of which went to Cancer Research UK, the remainder to squadron funds.

The Group Trophy is presented to the organisation or group that raises the most funds from sponsorship for the North Downs Walk and The Kieth Simmons Team Challenge Shield to the forces or cadet unit unit that raises the most funds. The Keith Simmons Shield replaces the Forces Challenge Shield which was retired and presented in perpetuity to 1404 (Chatham) Squadron ATC as reported in our post of 17th November.
The 2024 RC Weald of Kent’s North Downs Walk raised £ 24,000 for charities, of which nearly £17,000 has been presented to the Club’s nominated charity, Cancer Research UK. 50% of funds raised by participants is donated to CRUK, the remainder to a charity of the walker’s choice.
The 2025 Walk, the 40th, is taking place on 8th June 2025. More information can be found on the North Downs Walk page.
