Weald of Kent members ‘raided’ Maidstone Riverside on World Polio Day
Profits from the ‘Frugal Supper’ and a raffle run during the evening will be donated to Rotary’s End Polio Now campaign. Our donation, as with all donations to Rotary’s End Polio Now, will be tripled by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
Rotary International began its fight against Polio in 1979 and in 1988 became a partner in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. At that time more than 1000 children were paralysed by polio every day. Since, more than 20 million people have been saved from paralysis because of vaccination efforts against polio and polio cases have been reduced by 99.9%.
Rotary and its partners are so close to eradicating polio but If all efforts stopped today, within 10 years, polio could paralyse as many as 200,000 children each year. A polio-free world will be a healthier world for children everywhere.
